Welcome to Asaptraders

Cheaperliving

Madmotors has also has a cooking forum so please do take a look.

Self-sufficiency, you need less money in order to survive. You can grow most of your own food were ever possible and also make some of your own cleaning products you can even generate your own electricity. Mind you there will be times when you need money. And these range from bills to running your car, mine is up for sale to as I get around quicker on my push bike these days. So for these you should plan well ahead so you know you will be able to afford them when the time comes. There are many ways to earn extra money while living a self-sufficient lifestyle. These include selling your surplus food and generating your own electricity to Which the energy companies will buy back off you.

These days it’s hard to imagine life without a fridge/freezer, yet people still manage without one all over the world today. In our modern society we are used to such comforts such as a fridge/freezer, but you will soon come to realise that a fridge/freezer is not all ways necessary, and you will hardly notice it has gone. Living without a fridge/freezer will save you money on electricity bills and reduces your carbon footprint. My fridge/freezer uses around £137. Per year and is in the process of being cleared out and then sold on. My TV went last year and I don’t miss it one bit so counting a TV Licence and the electric as well has saved me over £250 a year. So I don’t have to work as much, leaving me more free time to do other things.

I will be building a small walk in larder and use marble and slate to help keep it cool all materials will be sourced for free as and when I find them. So far the washing machine has gone along with the TV, The fridge/freezer to follow soon and also the car. It all adds up to a fair bit of money that I no longer have to work for.

Before electricity, people used cold cellars and pantries, larders to store food in. shopping was done on a daily basis, and most food was grown in the garden, meaning it could be left in the ground until it was needed, (ditches was dug into the ground and lined with straw and soil to preserve root vegetables such as carrots). Being self-sufficient will enable to adopt similar ideas. By growing your own fruit & vegetables you will not have any need for a fridge/freezer. If you buy, or catch your own meat, you may want to look into other methods of preserving it, for example, salting, curing or smoking.

Use meat and dairy products on the same day you purchase them. Keep eggs in a clean, dry cupboard
Store vegetables in the ground where they grew, or in the pantry for up to a week fruit may be stored and eaten by passers-by. Store potatoes in Hessian sacks in a cool, dark place excess foods can be made into chutneys and jams to preserve them. Doing without a fridge will ensure you eat fresh food, which is better for you by living without a fridge/freezer you will be more in touch with the food you eat. You will be much healthier as a result of eating fresh food, and you are less likely to waste food if you do not have a fridge.

We will be putting in more effort this year on selfsufficiency not just for the enviroment but more so to inprove the Quality of our own life style. In a world bent on chaos. For further information on this can be found on madmotors under Food & Drink.

Home made wind/water generator.

This project can also be found on Cheaperliving.

In poor countries where the water wheel power is common, electricity can be generated for the people who live where as the electricity cannot be reached, And combined with modern energy efficient LED and CFT lighting, can improve there quality of life. It should not to hard or expensive to make a waterwheel from a old push bike wheel to drive the motor and gear it up around 15:1 ie 1 roation of the wheel should 15 at the motor so will be looking for around 100rpm on the wheel this will be good for around 1500rpm on the motor, this is a suck it and see project.

Since all three have been linked together. And although Cheaperliving is quiet at the moment,(Came online at the End of november 2009) as it was only for me and a few friends. But now as the forum expands we will probably see more new members joining in the near future.
